Following the Boston Tea Party, the British issued these acts which shut down Boston port, sent more soldiers to America, and said royal officials could only be tried in England.
What are the Coercive or Intolerable Acts?
Written by John Dickinson, this document, directly addressed to King George III, was sent to England in 1775 a few months after Lexington and Concord and was a final attempt to restore peace, stop the violence, and get the King to help the Americans. King George refused to read it.
