What is gravity?

The force of attraction between any two objects due to their mass.
100

What causes seasons?

Seasons are caused by the way Earth orbits the sun on its tilted axis.

100

What causes day and night?

When the half of the Earth is facing the Syn it is day, when it is not facing the Sun it is night.  The rotation of Earth is a complete spin on its axis.  Earth makes one rotation every day. 24 hours

100

Define orbit

An orbit is the path one object takes around to another object.

100

How many times does the Earth revolve around the Sun?

Each year, the Earth makes one revolution around the Sun.

200

What affects the strength of gravity between two objects?

The strength of gravity between two objects is affected by the total mass of the two objects and by the distance between them.

200

What causes certain areas of Earth to experience different seasons?

Different parts of the Earth experience different seasons because the earth revolves around the sun which makes different temperatures.  The sunlight strikes different parts of the earth at different angles.

200

Which movement of Earth causes day and night?

The Earths rotation on its axis is the movement which causes us to have day and night

200

I am the shape of a planet's orbit.  Who am I?

I am an ellipse

200

Why do areas near the Earth's poles have long periods of darkness and daylight?

Due to the Earth's tilt.  When the North Pole is tilted towards the Sun its continuously exposed to light, the North Pole is near Earths axis, it doesn't face away-long daylight.  When its tilted away from the Sun then North Pole is in darkness.

300

What type of force is gravity?

The force of attraction and the pull of two objects

300

When the season in the Northern Hemisphere is Autumn, what season is it in the Southern Hemisphere?

The season would be Spring.

300

In what direction does Earth rotate?

Earth rotates from West to East

300

What has kept Earth in its path around the Sun for so long?

Gravity and Inertia

300
If Earth's axis were not tilted, could  any area have both a hot summer and a cold winter?

No.  Each latitude of Earth would receive the same amount of sunlight and energy from the Sun all year.

400

What is inertia?

The tendency of a moving object to keep moving in a straight line or of any object to resist a change in motion.

400

What season are we in right now?

Winter

400

I am the spinning of Earth around its axis.  I cause day and night.  Who am I?

I am rotation

400

Which larger, the Earth or the Sun?

The Sun is much larger than the Earth

400

Why does the astronaut weigh less on the Moon than on Earth?

The Moon has less mass than Earth and therefore the pull of gravity is not as strong.
