What is a procedure?
A specific way we do something. Procedures are there for a reason, to make things work efficiently and safely.
What should you do when you get to art?
WAIT to be welcomed into the classroom. Take your sketchbook out of the bin. Quietly find your seat and start the Do Now/Bell Ringer Activity.
Where can you find the materials that you will need for a project?
On the brown Material's Table.
Paint materials are always kept by the sink.
What does it look like to be organized in art class?
Be prepared with your sketchbook. Finish classwork on time.
What is the procedure for using the restroom in art?
Raise your hand and ask for permission. Sign out with the time you are leaving. Sign back in when you return. Wait until independent work time to use the restroom.
How will you find your seat?
Every student has an assigned seat. If the seats have changed, the new classroom "map" will be on the board.
What materials are ALWAYS available on the Material's table?
Pencils, erasers, sharpeners, glue sticks, rulers, and messy mats
What is the procedure for a fire drill?
Stop what you are doing. Line up quietly. Walk out of the classroom and through the double doors to the basketball court. We do not have an assigned spot, we walk to the next AVAILABLE spot.
Why do we do a Do Now/Bell Ringer Activity?
They help transition our brains into art class and help us practice drawing what we see.
Where do projects and materials go at the end of class?
Painted projects go to the drying rack (labeled with a clothes pin for your class)
Dry projects get stacked nicely on your grade's metal shelf.
Materials get returned to the Material's Table
How can I communicate and collaborate in art?
Participate in class by asking questions and adding to discussions.
Be engaged.
Help your classmates. Ask for help when you need it.
What is the procedure for a bomb threat drill?
What does Mrs. McDermott look for in your Do Now/Bell Ringer Activities?
Quality over quantity! It's more important to complete PART the Do Now/Bell Ringer WELL than rush through all of it to get it done.
What is the procedure for a lockdown drill?
SILENTLY sit on the floor in front of the drying racks and project shelves.
If you are in the hallway or bathroom, go to the nearest classroom.
Describe IN DETAIL how to clean up after painting.
Palette, brushes, wipe down sink
What does it look like to be reflective and take initiative in art class?
Be open to help from classmates and Mrs. McDermott.
Reflect on your work - What do you like? What would you do differently next time?
Ask for ways to add onto or extend the project. Use personal time to improve or dive deeper into what we are learning.
