Where is the pencil sharpener?

Trick question, there are two. One by the door and one that's only used for pencils at the front of the classroom by the calendar.

If I'm using the electric pencil sharpener, I will wait until instructions are finished being given.

100

I don't have an extra pencil, where can I find one?

At the front of the classroom in the watermelon jar. I WILL PROMISE TO RETURN IT AT THE END OF CLASS.

I WILL NOT BREAK ANY PENCILS.

100

I need to use the washroom, what do I do?

I need to ask Ms. Miller (at an appropriate time) and wait for anyone else who is out of the classroom.

Ms. Miller might not let me go right away, but she will add me to the list and tell me when it's my turn to go.

I WILL NOT WASTE MY CLASS TIME IN THE WASHROOM. I HAVE A MAX. OF 5 MINUTES. I CAN ONLY GO ONCE PER BLOCK.

100

I don't know where my next class is, where can I find this?

There are 3 spots where you can find the schedules!

1. Outside the door in the hallway

2. Inside the door

3. At the front of the classroom.

I will not ask Ms. Miller because she does not know.

100

I need a whiteboard/whiteboard marker (for class purposes), where can I find these?

IF Ms. Miller has asked you to grab them, they are at the front of the classroom by the calendar.

If my marker is dead, I will let Ms. Miller know and then throw it out.

I will make sure to keep the lid close by and close the markers properly. I will make sure to erase my work when I am finished.

200

I have a form/signed test to return, where can I do this?

Anything that is signed/important form for Ms. Miller, please put it on the desk by the door. Do not give it to Ms. Miller in the middle of class (SHE WILL LOSE IT).

200

I don't want to sit in my assigned seat for the day, what can I do?

If this is a one day thing, you need to talk to Ms. Miller at the beginning of class.

If she says it's okay, you can sit solo at the whiteboard table or the U shaped table.

200

I borrowed a fidget but I forgot to give it back to Ms. Miller, what do I need to do?

Fidgets from Ms. Miller's room should not leave the classroom. If it does accidentally, please hold onto it (and keep it safe) until the next nutrition break or end of the day and bring it back to Ms. Miller. If she's not there, you can leave it on her desk.

200

I am finished my work, what can I do now?

Definitely not sit like a lump on a log ...

If you're finished (and have done your best work), you can look to the wall by the phone for an activity to complete. You may also finish other work that you have not finished for Math class.

200

Ms. Miller is trying to get everyones attention, and she has started to count down. What do you need to do?

Immediately stop talking, face wherever Ms. Miller is and wait for the next instructions.

IMMEDIATELY IS KEY - if you're in the middle of a conversation, STOP IT. Ms. Miller is trying to give you an important piece of information.

300

I have to use the washroom and it's an EMERGENCY, meaning I have to go RIGHT NOW (which will be few and far between, but could happen).

WHAT CAN I DO?

If it's a *true* emergency, you still need to let Ms. Miller know and state "this is an emergency".

Ms. Miller will let you go, but you need to use the closest washroom (single stall on the second floor). You need to be quick, and not disrupt others/dilly dally in the hallway. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT MIGHT HAPPEN TO YOU ONCE THIS YEAR, DO NOT ABUSE THIS.

300

I need a "break", what do I do?

Trick question, unless it is written into your IEP, there are no "breaks" during class.

If you're overwhelmed/overstimulated, please talk to Ms. Miller and I will do my best to find an option for you (a space, a different activity, an adult to check in with)

300

I continue to interrupt the class and take away from others learning, what is going to happen?

Ms. Miller will give you one warning/reminder to "act like a student".

If it continues, you will have a detention (name on the board = 5 minutes, tally's beside your name +5 minutes)

First time this happens, no phone call home. Happens again? Phone call home. If it continues to be a pattern, becomes an office issue.

300

When I walk into class, what is the first thing I should be doing?

The first thing I do is look at the board and read what is under "first thing", and make sure I am looking at my classes instructions.

Whatever the instructions are, I will follow it. A lot of the time it will involve my journal and these are stored at the back of the classroom.

300

It is not my turn for math, but I have something I REALLY need to tell Ms. Miller, what can I do?

Ms. Miller teaches 3 math classes, 1 health class and 2 phys ed classes.

If it is not my turn in math class, I will write myself a note about what I want to talk to her about and find her at break/wait for my math class. I can also send her an email when I have my chromebook next!

400

I am having a bad day, what can I do?

We all have off days, Ms. Miller totally gets it.

It is important to communicate with Ms. Miller about how you're doing. Ms. Miller will do her best to give you what you need that day (i.e. an adult to talk to, CYW check in, quick chat in the hallway, etc)

400

I need a pencil, but the watermelon is empty - WHAT CAN I DO?

Uh oh ... this means we are not returning our pencils. There are three options:

1) check the floor for a writing utensil

2) ask a classmate to borrow a writing utensil

3) LAST RESORT - tell Ms. Miller you have tried, but still need a pencil and Ms. Miller will help you out

YOU NEED TO START TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LEARNING AND BRING WHAT YOU NEED TO CLASS

400

There is a supply teacher, what should I do?

Treat every teacher/person with the same respect. When there is a supply teacher you still need to act like a student and get your work done.

Same rules apply. Be kind.

400

I need a calculator/ruler/math manipulative to complete my work, where can I find these?

First thing, double check with Ms. Miller if this will be helpful for the task. After, most supplies are kept in the back white closet.

If you borrow something, you need to return it to it's proper home.

400

I have made a mistake in my behaviour during math class today, how can I make this right?

It is most important to be honest about the mistakes we make. Own up to it to Ms. Miller, and we will make a plan on how the next day can be better.

We all make mistakes, it is okay. The most important part is learning from our mistakes and not making them again.

500

There is something on Ms. Miller's desk that I need, what do I do?

You DO NOT touch anything on Ms. Miller's desk without permission. If she asks you to grab something, go for it. If not, STAY AWAY.

500

The math we're doing today feels impossible and I don't know what to do, where should I start?

1. TRY - read the question, do what you can. Start somewhere.

2. ASK A BUDDY - we are sitting in groups, ask someone around you (this is not copying!!)

3. PUT UP YOUR HAND - be patient, there is only one Ms. Miller and a classroom full of students. You will need to be patient.

500

I forgot something IMPORTANT in a different class, what can I do?

Anything that could be important should be left at home or in our lockers. If you have forgotten something important, you will have to wait for NB or the end of the day to go grab it. IF Ms. Miller has time, she MIGHT be able to call the teacher to make sure it is safe.

500

I am sick, what can I do?

Sometimes when we're feeling sick, we just need to take a couple minutes to breath through it. If this doesn't work, Ms. Miller will call down to Ms. Adams and let her know that you're on your way to call your families to see if you can go home.

DO NOT MAKE THIS A HABIT TO GET OUT OF SCHOOL.

500

I am struggling to focus, what can I do?

1. Ask Ms. Miller for a fidget

2. Move away from distractions to work by myself

3. Ask for help
