The text structure in which an action and its results are discussed.
What is cause and effect?
This is a list of the chapters or sections given at the front of a book.
What is a table of contents?
"For 18 cents a day, you can change a starving child's life forever."
What is pathos?
“My sister’s room is a pig pen” is an example of this.
What is a metaphor?
Prancer & Cupid were famous ones.
What are reindeer?
The text structure in which information is organized in order of time.
What is chronological?
This is writing that goes along with a picture to give more information about it.
What is a caption?
"Hybrids are a good choice because of the increasing gas prices."
What is logos?
This is a figure of speech that uses “like” or “as” to compare to dissimilar things.
What is a simile?
In 2017 the maximum length of this went from 140 to 280 characters.
What is a tweet?
The text structure in which a difficulty is described and an answer is offered.
What is problem and solution?
It's purpose is to guide the reader to keep reading or scanning the information, as well as organizing the information in a text.
What is a subheading?
"75% of car accidents are from drunk driving."
What is logos?
This is sound words such as BANG, BAM, and BOING.
What is onomatopoeia?
A short bit of praise from a critic or a fellow author on the cover of a book.
What is a blurb?
The text structure in which differences and similarities of two or more things are discussed.
What is compare and contrast?
This is an alphabetical list of names, subjects, etc., with references to the places where they occur, typically found at the end of a book.
What is an index?
"Mom, cell phones can make a difference in emergency situations."
What is pathos?
This is when an author sets mental pictures in the reader’s head using words that appeal to the five senses.
What is imagery?
A freshwater fish of the salmon family.
What is trout?
The text structure in which it is explained how something happens or how something is done, step-by-step.
What is sequential?
This text feature is used to list out items in a text.
What are bullet points?
"As a three-time Olympic gold medalist, I can assure you that this energy drink will improve your fitness and stamina."
This is an exaggerated statement used to heighten effect, such as “My grandma is 900 years old!”
