Fill in the blank: A rhetorical analysis involves noting, interpreting, and evaluating the "design choices" a text made to achieve its ________ with its audience.
Purpose: what the text wants the audience to do or believe; it's the reason why the author/text is even bothering to communicate
True or False: You should aim to spend a roughly equal amount of words on the Rhetorical Analysis and your Argumentative Response
True. I won't be counting, but if your attention is lopsided in one direction, that will hurt the grade.
According to Monday's class, what did I state was the weakest part of the essay and why?
The first body paragraph is very strong except for the first 4 sentences. Those distract from the paragraph's main focus. The essay would've gone from an A- to an A if those sentences were cut.
FREE 400 POINTS!!!
Lucky you!
What is the lowest acceptable word count for this assignment? What is the highest?
The word count is 700-900, plus or minus 50 words, so 650 and 950
According to Monday's class discussion, what did I state was the strongest part of the essay and why?
We mentioned several strong points. The answers I'll accept for this, however, are the two areas that I emphasized: (1) the introduction or (2) the fair way they argued -- both when they critiqued Schrute's argument and when they refuted the counterargument. As far as why, I'll state/confirm that during class.
What is kairos?
Kairos is "the right moment" for an act of persuasion. That means looking at the larger context and asking yourself: Is this the right time and place to persuade *this* audience about *this* topic? Remember, Thanksgiving dinner is not the right time & place to persuade meat eaters to go vegan.
