Our safety group takes transportation safety very seriously. For this reason, we have spent the last 3 months assessing which forms of transportation are the most reliable, most affordable, and best to use during the day/night. Which mode of transportation do you think we take the most often?

Buses. Buses in Bocas del Toro are not only relatively reliable, but they’re also very affordable. There are two bus stations in Changuinola and buses run into the evening and go just about anywhere you need. Within and around Changuinola, we can also take taxis, or if we’re lucky, grab a ride with a community member.

The Emergency Action Plan is something that will help us find a quick and safe way to leave our communities in the event of a natural disaster or civil unrest in order to reach safety somewhere in our community or at the designated consolidation point. You may remember hearing something on the news that actually happened in Bocas del Toro, which required us to put this Emergency Action Plan into, well, action. What was that event?

After the elections on May 5th, 2019, the re-election of the Diputado for Bocas del Toro caused a series of strikes throughout the province which ended up blocking most roads in the province for several days.

By which method and how often do you think our group communicates with each other, on average?

What’s app group chat, and every day, usually multiple times a day.  We have several group chats with several different categories of Bocas volunteers, including TELLS bocas, TELLS G84, all bocas volunteers, and Changuinola neighbors.
