Myth or Fact: Cut back on carbs to lose weight.
Myth! Cutting back on all carbs can be harmful- decreasing your intake of simple carbs (ex. cookies, candy) is beneficial! But keep complex carbs (whole-wheat bread/beans) in your diet to gain the nutrients you need.

A calorie is a unit of energy. It refers to energy consumption through eating and drinking, and energy usage through physical activity.

Can junk food be addictive?
Food engineers have found ways to make food so “rewarding” that the brain gets flooded with dopamine, the same mechanism employed by abusive drugs. For this reason, some people can become addicted and completely lose control over their consumption.

Myth or Fact: Eating at night will make you fat.
Fact! People who eat late at night tend to put on extra weight. One possible reason is that late-night eaters tend to choose high-calorie snacks such as chips or cookies.

Are the healthy labeled foods truly healthy or are they labeled to attract consumers?
The food manufacturers have found ways to market the same old junk to the health conscious people. They do this by adding misleading labels like “whole grain” or “low fat” on their foods. These labels are almost always misleading, and are used to trick people into thinking that they’re making the right choice for themselves (and their children).

What is the difference between club sports and intramurals?
Club sports are groups of students representing their school in specific sports and compete against clubs from other schools. However, intramurals are teams of students, faculty/staff competing against one another on campus in various sports.

Explain the difference between aerobic and anaerobic exercises.

Myth or Fact: If the label says "no-fat" or "low-fat," you can eat all you want and not gain weight.
Myth! Many low-fat or no-fat foods have added sugar, starch, or salt to make up for the reduction in fat. These "wonder" foods often have just as many calories, or more, than the regular version.

Are sugar sweetened beverages the worst part about modern diets?
Sugar in liquid form is even worse than regular added sugar. The problem with liquid sugar is that your brain doesn’t compensate for the calories by eating less of other foods- these calories don’t get “registered” by the brain, making you eat more calories overall.

Myth or Fact: Fasting cannot help you lose weight quickly.
Fact! Fasting is not healthy if you go hungry all day and cap it off with a huge meal that replaces all the calories you skipped earlier. Compared to people who lose fat by eating fewer calories, people who fast lose more muscle than fat.

Does eating more high-fat foods or high-carb foods make you gain more weight?
Fat has often been blamed for obesity, because fat contains more calories per gram than protein and carbs. However, people who eat a diet that is high in fat (but low in carbs) actually end up eating fewer calories than people on low-fat, high-carb diets.

Research has shown that exercise can slow or help prevent heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, and loss of muscle mass. It also helps ease some aspects of the aging process.

What is the problem with doing school work/studying while sitting in bed?
Working in bed can make getting to sleep harder. Keep your work space separate from your sleep space to decrease chances of insomnia- if you do work in bed you're more likely to think about what you need to get done before falling asleep and will create more stress for yourself.
