-have a sign ready that says "I am Deaf" or "I am hard of hearing" and includes your preferred means of communication
-first make eye contact with the officer and indicate deafness using the universal sign
- do not touch the officer
-request an interpreter
-make sure you understand what is going on, what is expected of you, what the officer is asking, and do not stop asking, writing, requesting until you understand
-make sure the officer knows what you are getting before you reach for it (ie; license, registration, insurance, etc)
