Block Numbers
Although it occasionally splits into a boulevard and becomes 1E/W, as the center of Chicago's grid, State Street possesses this number.
This street is named Garfield Boulevard in the city's south side and becomes Maple Avenue in the western suburbs. After briefly merging with Archer Avenue, it forms the northern boundary of Midway Airport.
55th Street
This expressway stretches between Chicago and New Orleans and is nicknamed the Stevenson and Obama Expressways.
Interstate 55
Although no longer an official US Route, this famous roadway connecting Chicago and Santa Monica begins as Adams Street, continues to Ogden Avenue, Jumps to Joliet Road and exits the metropolitan area as I-55.
US Route 66
This street begins aligned with the grid in the loop, but slants northwest at North Avenue, forming the boundary of Lincoln Park and the home plate side of Wrigley Field.
Clark Street
Chicago's south side makes block numbers convenient. As such, this is the block number for 75th Street.
7500 South
The old Crawford Avenue was changed to honor this Polish American Revolutionary War hero, although some southern suburbs maintain its original name.

The innermost of Chicago's ring expressways, gaining its number by starting and ending at I-94.
Interstate 294
This roadway has the unique property of carrying three US Route designations between Lake Street and 95th Street, those being US 12, 20, and 45.
LaGrange Road
(Mannheim Road)
The northernmost street in the loop (excluding Wacker) is never truly straight, but angles northwest at the Des Plaines River and ends in Elgin. The Green Line is elevated over this street on its west branch.
Lake Street
In the West Loop, this street is named Morgan Street and is a Green Line station. It becomes Sheridan Road north of Wrigley Field, and is Sheffield Avenue in the Near North Side.
1000 West
As it reaches the Chicago border, this road is renamed to Columbus Avenue, confusingly unrelated to Columbus Drive in the Loop. it runs perpendicular to its northern counterpart, which shares its directional naming convention.
Southwest Highway
The outermost of Chicago's ring expressways, beginning at I-290 in Addison and ending at I-80 in New Lenox.
Interstate 355
This roadway carries the designation of US Route 41 for its entire span and has become the target of criticism due to poor urban planning and a recent controversial name change.
Lake Shore Drive
This northwest street likely once led all the way to its namesake city, but is more likely known for its continuity with the Blue Line until Logan Square Park and its nightlife scene.
Milwaukee Avenue
Harlem Avenue crosses through the neighborhoods of Montclare, Dunning, Norwood Park, and Edison Park, and thus is given this grid number.
7200 West
This street is named after former Chicago mayor Anton Cermak (Cermak Road), but reverts to its numerical name in Oak Brook, where it runs past Oak Brook Center and merges into Butterfield Road.
22nd Street
While not as recognizable of a circle highway as I-294 or I-355, this Illinois State Route connects the Indiana and Wisconsin borders an a circular fashion, and its longest named stretch is Kingery Highway.
Illinois Route 83
As it leaves the city, Archer Avenue carries this state route designation all the way into Joliet. Upon reaching 55th Street, it continues north as 1st Avenue.
Illinois Route 171
This oddball street continues due west for almost 30 miles until Winfield, where it shifts north and leads into Geneva.
Roosevelt Road
Despite never entering the city, LaGrange Road is in line with Chicago's grid and is labelled with an avenue number at several intersections. This would be LaGrange's grid number.
9600 West
The near western suburbs begin their numbering conventions at 1st Avenue; however, the street continues north into the city as Cumberland Avenue. 1st Avenue would be called this Avenue as part of the city's grid.
84th Avenue
This interchange between I-90/94/290 takes up 4 city blocks of space and is a major source of congestion in the city's traffic.
The Jane Byrne Interchange
The southernmost route in the Chicago Metropolitan area, US Route 30 runs from the Indiana border into Joliet, and several far southern suburban schools derive their name from this road.
Lincoln Highway
This diagonal road begins at Wells Street, and passes through two namesake neighborhoods and a namesake suburb.
