What are the parts of the peripheral system?
Somatic and Autonomic (Nerves)
What does the Sympathetic System do?
Excites/activates the body
What does the Parasympathetic system do?
Rests the body
What are the parts of the central nervous system?
Spinal Cord and Brain
What is a reflex motion?
An automatic response, very quick
What is the Somatic's function?
Controls conscious movement, transmits signals to the CNS
How does the Sympathetic System affect the Bladder?
You wouldn't have to pee, it doesn't contract
How does the parasympathetic system affect the bladder?
It would make you have to pee
How is the CNS related to the PNS?
The PNS has to send information to the CNS as quick as it can, once the CNS understands the information, the PNS will do what it tells it.
What is a conscious motion?
Sensory input to brain, slower
What does the Autonomic system do and what are it's parts?
It controls involuntary movement, without conscious control. Parasympathetic, Sympathetic & Enteric
What is the role of the sympathetic nervous system?
Controls the body's response while in threatening siutations
What is the role of the parasympathetic nervous system?
Control the body's response while it is at rest
What is the job of this system?
To control the activities of the body
What is the function of the brain?
It controls our thoughts, memory, speech, movement, and many organ functions
How are the 3 neurons involved in the Somatic System?
Sensory neurons take in information. Motor neurons send information from the spinal cord to other parts of the body. The interneurons decide what to do.
What is the response of this system?
Fight-or-flight
What is the response of this system?
Rest & digest
What are the brain regions?
Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar
What is the function of the spinal cord?
To pass along sensory receptors brain and to perform actions.
What does the enteric system do?
Controls digestive functions
Where do the nerves originate?
Thoracic
Where do the nerves originate?
Cranial
What does the brain consist of?
Ventricles, gray matter and white matter
What do certain areas of the spinal nerve control?
Cervical - sensation to body parts
Thoracic - Send information from spinal cord to other parts of the body
Lumbar - Control communication between brain and legs
