What are leggings?

For security reasons and to identify staff to the public, every full-time employee is issued this stating the employee's last name and department. It should be worn whenever the employee is on duty.
What is an identification badge or name tag?

In compliance with the North Carolina Wage and Hour Act, an employee is not entitled to regular breaks outside of his/her meal hour. However, employees may take a brief break when the employee deems it necessary, as long as it does not interfere with public service or departmental proceedings and should not exceed this time period.

Sick leave is granted to all full-time employees at the rate of eight (8) hours for each calendar month. Unused sick leave may accumulate indefinitely for these type of benefits.

Conversations should be kept to a minimum and should never interfere with patrons. Employees should stay here during working hours unless a supervisor assigns them elsewhere.

When the weather is inclement, the Director of Libraries will decide whether or not to close the Headquarters Library and/or the branches of the Neuse Regional Library System. If the decision is made to close a library, all full-time employees may elect to use vacation leave or compensatory time, take leave without pay or make up the time. Time must be made up within this time period.

Emergency leave is a convenience provided by the Library Board to the staff. It is not extra vacation time to which the staff is entitled. Its purpose is primarily for doctor's appointments and day-to-day emergencies. Full-time staff members are given this many hours of Emergency leave per year after completion of their probationary period.

All circulating materials owned by the Library System are available to employees and may be checked out according to normal procedures. Employees are allowed a grace period for overdue materials determined by the Library Board; if they do not return materials by the end of the grace period, they will be subject to the full fine. Employees are still responsible for these materials.
What are lost or damaged materials?

All full-time library employees are entitled to membership in the North Carolina Local Government Employee's Retirement System administered by the State of North Carolina. All new employees are required to join after this many year(s) of service.
