Describe the difference between shame and guilt.

Shame: Shame is a painful emotion that attacks our core identity because the emotion focuses on who we are as a person. shame tells us that we are inherently flawed, unworthy, or defective as a person. 

Guilt: Guilt is feeling bad about a specific action that you did.  Guilt leads us to feeling responsible for a wrongdoing.

  • Active suicidal ideation is when an individual’s suicidal thoughts turn into suicidal planning. People who experience active suicidal ideation become motivated to create an action plan to commit self-harm. Active suicidal ideation usually requires emergency treatment.
