What is Newton's first law

An object in motion will stay in motion and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

100

What is Newton's second law.

F=MA

Meaning that force mass and acceleration are all related.

100

What type of force is the book on the table experiencing? Explain.

The book is experiencing a balanced force. There is equal amounts of gravity pushing down on the book and equal amounts of reaction force pushing up on the book making it stay at rest.

100

What is the force of an object that has a mass of 200kg and an acceleration of 5m/s2?

1000N

100

What unit is force measured in

Newtons

200

What is inertia?

An objects resistance to a change in motion.

200

Why does an object at rest begin to move?

Because an unbalanced force accts upon it.

200

What type of force is a ball that is accelerating downwards experiencing?

It is experiencing an unbalanced force. It is accelerating downwards because The gravity pushing down is stronger than the air resistance pushing up.

200

What is the force of a 3kg skateboard accalerating at a rate of 4m/s2?

12N

200

What will happen to an object if it experiences an unbalanced force?

It will have a change in morion.

300

What is a balanced force?

Forces that are equal in size and opposite in direction acting on one object.

300

If you kick a bowling ball and a soccer ball with the same amount of force why does the soccer ball go further.

The soccer ball goes further because it has less mass making it accelerate faster.

300

Which object is experiencing a balanced force? How do you know?

A is experiencing a balanced force because it has two equal forces acting on it in opposite directions.

300

If a 25kg car accelerates at a speed of 100m/s2, what is the force of the car?

2500N

300

What will happen to an object experiencing a balanced force?

It will have no change in motion. If it is at rest it will stay at rest. If it is in motion it will stay in motion.

400

What is an unbalanced force?

forces that are not the same size. They can act in the same direction or in different directions on one object.

400

What affects the acceleration of an obbject?

The force and mass of an object.

400

Compare the two diagrams.

Diagram C and D are experiencing the same amount of force but have different masses.

400

What is the rate of acceleration of the object in the diagram below?

5m/s2

400

Which object would require more force to move. A 100kg boulder or a 1kg ball?

The 100kg boulder.

500

According to newton's first law of motion an object in motion will stay in motion. Explain why a soccer ball will eventually stop moving when it is kicked.

The soccer ball will stop moving because friction and gravity are acting on it.

500

What is the definiton of acceleration?

Acceleration is the measurement of how quickly an object changes it direction.

500

Which object will accelerate faster and why?

E will accelerate faster because it is experiencing a greater force.

500

Calculate the rate of acceleration of object a and b and state which one has a greater rate of acceleration.

A) Is a 50kg object that is experiencing a 100N force.

b) Is a 2kg object experiencing a 84N force.

A) 2m/s2

B) 42m/s2

object B has a greater rate of acceleration.

500

What tow forces are acting on the person on the chair? what direction are they acting in and what type of force is the person experiencing?

Gravity and reaction force. Gravity is pushing down and the reaction force is pushing up. The person is experiencing a balanced force.

600

Explain using inertia why your body moves forward when a car quickly stops.

You body moves forward when a car stops suddenly because your body has inertia. This means when the car stops suddenly you do not want to stop with the car. Your body wants to continue moving forward. Resulting in your body lunging forward. This is why it is important to wear a seatbelt.

600

What is the definition and an example of velocity?

Velocity is the measurement of how fast something is going and the direction it is moving in.

ex. The car is moving 50km per hour North.

600

What type of force is a car moving at a constant speed experiencing? Draw the forces acting on the car and explain your answer.

The car would be experiencing a balanced force because it is not changing its motion. There is equal amounts of air resistance/friction and driving force acting on the car.

600

What is the rate of acceleration on a 23kg object that is experiencing a 77N force? Use a decimal not a remainder. round to the nearest 100th.

3.35m/s2

600

Using your knowledge of forces what four forces act on a paper airplane that is thrown?

Thrust/force of the throw, air resistance, gravity, and lift reaction force from air pushing up.
