What is Newton's First Law?
The Law of Inertia: an object at rest tends to stay rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion and unless an unbalanced force acts on them.
What is the relationship between mass, acceleration and force?
If mass increases, so does force.
Is acceleration increases, so does force.
Force is equal to mass times acceleration.
A player kicks a soccer ball with 100 N of force. What is the force that the ball exerts on the soccer player?
Newton's 3rd Law states for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The reaction in this case is the soccer ball hitting the player's foot with 100 N of force.
List the 6 simple machines.
Lever
Inclined Plane
Wedge
Pulley
Wheel & Axel
Screw
Describe the direction and speed of the object.

The object is accelerating and moving forward.
Draw a free body diagram where one person is pushing west with 50N of force and one person is pushing east with 80N of force. What is the total Net Force for the box?

What is the magnitude of the force on a 59.6 kg object if it accelerates at 68.2 m/s^2? Round to the nearest tenth.
(59.6kg)(68.2 m/s^2) = 4064.72N
A bug with a mass of 5 grams flies into a windshield of a moving 1000kg bus. Which will have the most force?
A: the bug on the bus
B: the bus on the bug
B: the bus on the bug
Why do chefs sharpen their knives?
It makes the wedge more distinct which makes a thinner wedge easier to do work.
Describe the motion at 0-2s, 2-4s, and 4-6s.

0-2s: accelerating forward
2-4s: at rest
4-6s: decelerating forward
What is the total Net Force for this free body diagram? Is this a balanced or unbalanced force?

50 N to the west/left. It is an unbalanced force because the box would move to the west/left.
If a 0.576 kg object has a force of 29.4 N applied to it, what would be its rate of acceleration? Round to the nearest tenth.
(29.4N)/(.576kg) = 51.04m/s^2
What is the force of gravity? Hint: I want a number and a unit.
9.8 m/s^2
What is a pulley and why does it make work easier?
A pulley is a rope pulled over a wheel or a system of wheels. It changes the direction of the force which increases the applied force making work easier.
When does the object reverse directions?

At 4 seconds.
The bear has a total net force of 1600 N. If you have 3 scales for three parts of the bear's force, what is the 4th scale?

1600N - 600N - 350N - 400N = 250N
What is the mass of an object that accelerates at 1.3 m/s^2 when a 352 N is applied to it? Use mass in kg. Round to the nearest tenth.
(352N)/(1.3 m/s^2) = 270.77kg
You are waiting in line to use the diving board at your local pool. While watching people dive into the pool from the board, you realize that using a diving board to spring into the air before a dive is a good example of Newton’s third law of motion. Explain how a diving board illustrates Newton’s third law of motion.
Answers will vary but something along the lines of: as you jump down on the spring, potential energy is transferred to kinetic energy as the spring board moves upward. When the spring board moves up, you are also sent upward. The action is jumping down on the spring board and the reaction is the board pushing back up using potential energy.
Explain where the fulcrum is placed for all types of levers. Provide an example for each type of lever.
1st: the fulcrum is placed between the effort and the load - a seesaw
2nd: the load is between the effort and the fulcrum - wheelbarrow
3rd: effort is between the load and the fulcrum - a baseball bat
Describe the direction of the object. Is it speeding up or slowing down?

The object is moving forward and speeding up.
