This type of situation outside the school, such as a police chase or bank robbery, may trigger an external lockdown.

During an Internal Lockdown, teachers should do these four things to make the classroom less visible and secure from an intruder.

Call 911 immediately (if not already done); notify administration if they are not already present who will alert school police; radio security to direct EMS; send EMS to the closest door or Door 5 if unsure; have a secretary meet EMS at the entrance and guide them to the location; notify the nurse if not already on scene; notify an assistant principal and Mr. Day; ensure ongoing radio communication with office staff for parent contact and student information
What key hazard should staff anticipate immediately after the initial earthquake shaking stops, and how should this affect their actions?
Aftershocks; staff should maintain caution, keep students in sheltered or safe areas, and follow instructions before moving or evacuating further.
