How far from the edge must items be placed on a sterile field?
At least 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the edge.

5-second vigorous scrub.
What must occur before opening a sterile kit?

No moisture; no blood beyond gel pad; gel pad clear; not swollen.

Mask patient if tolerated; otherwise turn head away.

How should alcoholic chlorhexidine gluconate solution be applied?
Back-and-forth friction for 30 seconds; allow to air dry completely.
You reach over the sterile field while pouring solution.
Field contaminated. Do not reach over sterile field.
Biopatch™ is considered dry if:
Not more than 50% saturated.
What must be done after dressing change?
Label dressing with date.

One-time use only.
Femoral CVC CHG scrub time?
2 minutes and must air dry.
You’re unsure if the glove touched a non-sterile surface.
Treat as contaminated and correct immediately.
If outer white border lifts but window intact?
Still considered intact.
Hair around insertion site?
Clip, do not shave
If line has ClearGuard™ cap and is not clamped?
Risk of bleeding — must remain clamped when not in use.
