What is Table of Contents?
A picture or diagram that helps make something clear or attractive
What is an illustration?
A table listing important events for successive years within a particular historical period
What is a timeline?
This text structure explains a topic, idea, person, place, or object by listing characteristics, features, and examples that describe it.
What is description?
This type tells about the life of someone else.
What is a biography?
A short article in a newspaper or magazine, typically boxed, placed alongside a main article, and containing additional or explanatory material.
What are sidebars?
A picture or likeness obtained by a camera.
What is a photograph?
An extra sentence of information to help you know what the page is about.
What is a subheading?
This text structure describes an event or how to do something in the order that the events or steps occurred.
What is Chronological Order?
This type tells about a person's own life.
What is an autobiography?
An alphabetical list of names, subjects, etc., with references to the places where they occur, typically found at the end of a book.
What is an index?
A representation usually on a flat surface of the whole or a part of an area
What is a map?
The explanatory comment or designation accompanying a pictorial illustration
What is a caption?
This text structure presents an issue and then ways to fix the issue.
What is problem and solution?
These books provide facts and supporting information about a topic. They are well organized and include graphics and text features that help find or gain information.
What is expository nonfiction?
Found near the top of the page, usually helps to tell what the page is about.
What are headings?
A sheet giving information in tabular form
What is a chart?
A chart, diagram, or illustration (as in a book or magazine, or on a website) that uses graphic elements to present information in a visually striking way.
What is an infographic?
This text structure is written in a way that tells the reason that something happens and then the things that happen because of it.
What is cause and effect?
This text type tells a story, but it is a true story.
What is narrative nonfiction?
An alphabetical list of terms or words found in or relating to a specific subject, text, or dialect, with explanations; a brief dictionary.
What is a glossary?
A graphic design that explains rather than represents
What is a diagram?
A diagram (such as a series of one or more points, lines, line segments, curves, or areas) that represents the variation of a variable in comparison with that of one or more other variables
This text structure explains how two or more topics are similar and how they are different.
What is compare and contrast?
A narrative composed from personal experience.
What is a memoir?
