Both regions had indigenous populations, but were then conquered and settled by Europeans. Africans were brought to work on plantations. In the Caribbean there are still many territories of other nations and there is a lot of tourism. There is a lot of blending of cultures from the past and present. Language, religion, food customs, ect are mixed....
