Cell Phone Policy

Cell Phones and other Mobile Smart Phone Devices At no time is a Little Sprouts staff member to be using a cell phone or a smartwatch device while they are supervising children! Vocal and text communications – and even looking at the cell phone are strictly prohibited in the classroom, playgrounds, and any place in the presence of school children and their parents. Employees may not use personal cell phones during the school day except in the event of an emergency situation. We expect you to keep your phone secured during the workday – in your car or in your purse. Employees may use their personal cell phone, for personal use while on breaks only. The School Director also has the option of taking cell phones from staff during working hours if this policy is not followed. Staff are also not permitted to take pictures of children with their personal smart devices. Violation of this policy can lead to immediate dismissal.

Where are the allergy lists located in each classroom?

Allegy lists are located inside the cabinets behind the Allergy cover sheet. 

-Allergy lists and Individual Health Care Plans must be signed every time there is a change/monthly.

What is a good reason to have empty shelves in the classroom?

- Cleaning Toys - rotate the toys on the shelves so that the shelves are never empty.


- Children keep dumping them - that's a developmentally appropriate behavior for infants and toddlers. They are learning cause and affect.

What parts of the day are planned?

All parts must be planned

Morning activities should be placed on tables before children arrive.

Transitions must be planned

Outdoor activities must be planned

Direct instructions must be planned

Pick-up activities must be planned.

What is the protocol for responding to an injury on a child?

- A child gets an injury, what's next.

What are the policies regarding call outs?

- Can not use vacation time for a call out

- Calling out 

- Must be 2 hours before shift

- If you do not have benefit time, call-outs can lead to write up or up to termination.

- When you call out, it causes turmoil in the schedules of children and other staff. Sick time should not be used just because it is available. Abuse of the sick time policy may result in forfeiture of sick pay benefits and possible disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.

We are not able to celebrate holidays unless there is a family sharing traditions.

Its is okay to celebrate winter, harvest, snow, family. 

We cannot celebrate birthdays unless it's parent initiated.

A child is the throwing blocks at the other children, what happens next?

The teacher must explain to the child that they are being unsafe and sit with the child to use them appropriately.

If the child is unwilling to change the behavior, the child should be given 2 different choices.

Bend down to the child's level and comfort them while reminding them of the school rules. Let the child choose (from options) where they would like place their home toy and offer them a school toy.

When are you allowed to eat food while on the clock?

We ask that, while on duty, staff be considerate of children who may be hungry or thirsty. While in view of children, staff are not to eat or drink unless children are also being served.
