If your counselor determines that you are a probable threat to yourself or someone else. In this instance, the counselor is obligated to share this information with any person(s) who may be able to ensure your safety or that of another person.

Evidence that a child, elder, or adult with disabilities is being abused - the counselor is obligated to report this to the appropriate authorities.

In legal situations such as a court order / subpoena

Professional consultation / supervision - maintaining confidentiality, your counselor may consult with another counseling professional to discuss your treatment to ensure that you are receiving the best possible care

* If you identify an NPU student and state that the student is at risk of harming him/herself, your counselor may act to protect the other student but would not directly disclose your name.

How many individual counseling sessions are students offered?

Number and frequency of sessions can vary and are determined based on student need and counselor recommendation and availability. Counseling Support Services follow a brief counseling model - generally 12-15 sessions.

Full-time and part-time undergraduate, graduate and School of Professional Studies students are eligible for counseling services on campus.
