Hello! I have a couple questions regarding NSO and the family orientation I’m attending on the 11th and 12th:
- What time do parents need to be at MSU and where exactly?
- Do parents spend the night as well or is it a one day event for them?
- Is there anything my parents need to bring?

Check-in for family is at 9:15 am at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center. The family program only takes place on day one of the students orientation program, and family members are responsible for finding their own overnight accommodations if they choose to stay the night. Family members do not need to bring anything other than spending money for meals, and a writing utensil and paper for note taking.

Hello my classes are full what do you do?
You will be able to work with your adviser at orientation to plan your courses for the year. They will be able to get you into the classes that you will need for your degree. We also work with the Registrar to reserve seats in common classes for each program.

Hi,
I am signed up for orientation on June 27-28. However, I was wondering if it is mandatory that we must spend the night? While I would really love to, I just had something come up on the 28th that I can’t miss and was wondering if I would be able to leave after the activities on Thursday night or if there were important things that I would miss on Friday morning. I am wondering because if I can leave after the Thursday activities I would be able to make it back home for the 28th. I looked at switching to one of the other dates, but none of them work out for me.

All of the sessions at NSO are mandatory, including the overnight and day two activities.

I would like to request consideration for my NSO date to be moved up from August 19th to July 1st. I am a commuter transfer student, and just started a new job. I am working with my management to see if I will be able to continue working or if my schedule will need to be modified in the Fall due to class schedule. I also am unsure if I need to take placement exams in advance of the school year as well as what status I am transferring at. I feel that a lot of my questions could be answered to determine my next steps.

I have added you to our waitlist for that date. If we are able to switch your date, you will receive a confirmation email. In regards to placement exams, you will need to take the MPS exam online or at orientation if you are not transferring in math credit.

You should bring a change of clothes, a laptop/tablet to register for classes on, any medications or toiletries, and optional money for spending at Sparty's convenience store. We will provide bedding.
