The 1927 film, "Metropolis" is one of the first feature-length sci-fi movies. It also featured a number of then cutting edge visual effects: including forced perspective used to create the illusion of giant arcs of electricity and the Schufftan process which used mirrors to create the illusion of flames in the scene where Maria is burned at the stake.

In "Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir" there is usually a new villain with each episode once they are transformed by an evil buttefly or "akumatized." Some include Banana Boom Boom, Chloe Bourgeois, Lollipop Boy, Mega Leech, Reflekdoll, Sentibubbler, Strikeback, and Techno-Pirate.

LEGO's Bionicle line are set in a sci-fi universe populated by cyborgs. The Toa are heroes with elemental powers who protect the Matoran from the evil Makuta. Toa and Matoran are usually divided into tribes based on the four Aristotelian elements: fire, water, air, and earth, but less common elements were introduced in later editions, like light, gravity, and lightning.
