I am the major organ that regulates everything you do
emotions, memory, movement, thoughts, body
temperature, and vital signs.
What is the brain?
I provide visualization of the blood vessels in the brain and can detect defects, narrowing or
obstruction of arteries or blood vessels in the brain. I involve injecting iodine-based contrast dye into an artery and can identify aneurysms and assess the vascularity of tumors.
What is Cerebral Angiography?
I use magnets to provide cross sectional images of the
cranial cavity and may use contrast.
What is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)?
I am the "Communication Network” coordinates thoughts, feelings, and actions. I consist of the somatic (involuntary) and autonomic (involuntary) nervous systems.
What is nervous system?
I provide cross – sectional images of the cranial cavity. Contrast may be used. I can identify tumors, infarctions, detect abnormalities, guide biopsy needles, and monitor treatment response .
What is Cerebral Computed Tomography Scan
(Head CT)?
I produce 3D images of the head – can be static (showing vessels) or functional (depicting brain
activity) injecting a glucose-based tracer into the blood stream, initiating regional metabolic activity.
What is Positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography scans (SPECT)?
I consist of brain and spinal cord.
What is the central nervous system?
I check the electrical activity of the brain to determine abnormalities in brain wave patterns, assesses the ability of the brain to function & highlights areas of abnormalities. I am typically performed to identify and determine seizure activity, can detect sleep disorders and behavior changes.
What is an Electroencephalography (EEG)?
I am the part of the brain that regulates
autonomic body functions.
What is the brainstem?
I am an objective (numerical) measurement that enables the provider to determine if neurologic changes have occurred. I am used to assess level of consciousness and monitor treatment response.
What is the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)?
I am the lobe of the brain that controls voluntary
movements, thinking, and learning.
What is the frontal lobe?
I am a diagnostic procedure that withdraws a small amount of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the spinal canal and then analyzed to determine what’s in it. I am able to detect the presence of some diseases (syphilis, meningitis), infection and malignancies. I can also reduce CSF pressure, determine
pressure, instill contrast or air (for testing), or administer medicines or chemotherapy directly to the spinal fluid.
What is a lumbar puncture (spinal tap)?
