“This statement says: ‘You’re always late.’ Is it an observation or an evaluation, and why?”
What is an evaluation? Makes a generalization instead of naming a specific behavior, interpretive, critical, judgement.
This statement: ‘I feel rejected’ — is it a feeling or an evaluation/thought, and what’s the difference?
What is a thought, because it interprets what someone else did instead of naming an emotion.
This statement seems like an observation but implies intent: ‘You ignored me.’ Rewrite it as a true observation.
I sent you two emails and I haven’t received a response.
You looked at your phone when I was speaking with you.
Etc !
Someone says: ‘I feel betrayed.’ Explain two reasons why this doesn’t count as a NVC feeling statement.
What is: (1) ‘betrayed’ is not a pure emotion but an evaluation of someone else’s actions, and (2) it places blame on the other person instead of naming the speaker’s inner state. A feeling could be ‘I feel hurt’ or ‘I feel angry'.
