What are some common errors in confidentiality? 

•Computers screens are left on.  Computers must be locked or worker must log off when leaving their work area.

•Faxes containing confidential information are left in or near the fax machine.

•Faxes are sent to a wrong fax number.

•Accessing information on family, friends, neighbors through WMS, Centraport, DMV, Dept. of Labor, Connections, Social Security, National Grid or any other computer based system available for job related duties.

•Providing sufficient/specific information so someone can deduce/infer who it is you’re talking about.

Confidentiality requirements must still be adhered to and interpreting services must be conducted in confidential locations whether in person or over the phone.

What are some reasonable accommodation examples?

  • Help with filling out an application and gathering documents
  • Scheduling appointment times to avoid long wait times, seeing clients on a priority bases, avoiding conflicts with doctors/rehab/therapy appoitments
  • Home visits for those who have trouble traveling
  • Providing additional time to submit documents or complete tasks
  • Providing explanations of forms or rules
  • Allowing individuals to bring a companion or advocate
  • Reading notices and other program materials
  • Providing notices/applications/other materials in alternate forms (i.e. large print).
