Active or Passive Voice
One is active, one is passive. Someone actively doing something (ACTIVE) Someone thinking about it or uses "be, been, will be, had been, etc." (PASSIVE)?
Reporters write news reports.

What is an infinitive? Direct object
Crying is a way to release emotions.
What is a gerund?
Gerunds end in -ing. They will be a subject, direct object, or indirect object.
