Ruth was a Moabite (pagan) woman who would never have heard about God if an Israelite named Elimelech hadn’t decided to move out of Israel and live in Moab. One of his sons fell in love with Ruth and married her but died shortly after. When her mother-in-law left to move back to Israel, Ruth professed to believe in the true God.
