Each string instrument has four of these that you play on.
Strings
This Italian word means to play soft.

This is made up of five lines and four spaces.
Staff.
This note is worth one beat.

This word means to play short, separated notes.
Staccato.
The wooden piece that holds up your strings, and can fall over because it isn't glued down.
This Italian word means to play loud.
Forte.
This is found at the beginning of music to tell you what notes to play. In orchestra it can be the treble, alto or bass.
Clef.
This note is worth three beats.
Dotted half note.
This technique is when your hand looks like it is shaking to produce a rich tone on your instrument.
Vibrato.
The black wooden part of the instrument that you place your fingers on to play.
The fingerboard.
This Italian word means to gradually grow louder.
Crescendo.
This symbol is found at the beginning of the music to tell us how many beats are in a measure. It looks like a fraction.
Time signature
This rest is worth four beats of silence.
Whole rest.
This is the most important person to watch during a concert.
The conductor.
This attaches to the bottom of a violin or viola to give the instrument support when you hold it.
Shoulder rest.
This Italian word mean to play fast. It sounds like Happy in Spanish.
Allegro.
This is found at the beginning of music to tell us how many sharps or flats we have in the music.
Key signature
Two of this type of note equal one quarter note.
Eighth notes. TEE TEE
This word means to play smooth, and connected.
Legato.
This is where the sound comes out of your instrument. They are the speakers for your instrument.
F-holes
This word means that you hold a note longer than its worth. The conductor tells you when to stop. The symbol is an arch with a dot.
Fermata.
This sign in the music looks like an apostrophe or comma. It tells us to do two down bows in a row.
Circle Set, Retake, Lift.
This rest looks like a fancy 7 or a backwards "r" and is worth 1/2 a beat.
Eighth rest.
This means to rapidly move your bow back and forth and its symbol is slash marks on note stem.
Tremelo.
