(During Class Finding Tours) A freshman looks confused and says, “I don’t know where I’m supposed to be right now.” They have no name tag, what do you do.
1. Ask for their name

A student is being rude to a fellow orientee in your group. They are joking about the way the orientee is dressed. How do you address this situation?
1. Address the Behavior Immediately (But Calmly) "Hey, let’s keep our comments respectful. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable here."
2. Speak Privately with the Offender (if appropriate) "I wanted to check in about your comment earlier. It came across as hurtful, even if it was meant as a joke. We want everyone in this group to feel safe and respected. Please be mindful moving forward."
3. Support the Targeted Student "I'm sorry that happened. That kind of comment isn’t okay, and I’ve addressed it. If you want to talk or need support, I'm here."
From start to finish, how do you send your students to a rotating workshop?
1. (OUTSIDE the library) Make a meet-up spot.
2. (Outside of the library) Explain the choices there are for the orientees.
3. Walk them down to each choice and allow them to walk into the session if they please.
4. Once all orientees are in a workshop you can go on your break.
A supporter comes up and asks you: Why do me and my student have to split off into different tracks?
Students: learn of all the resources they are granted as a new otter, able to build community within their major, starting the transition of independence in college.
Supporters: Learn the resources of how they can support their student while they are in college, space capacity of groups, starting the transition of independence in college
What is the best method to use when greeting people?
10-5-1 foot rule:
10 Feet:
When someone is 10 feet away, make eye contact and smile. This signals warmth and openness.
5 Feet:
At 5 feet, offer a greeting—like "Hi!" or "How's it going?" This starts a basic human connection.
1 Foot:
At 1 foot (or when directly interacting), be fully engaged—this means attentive body language, a friendly tone, and active listening.
A student has been interested in getting to know you more personally, they ask for your number and your Instagram. What do you do?

You see a fellow Orientation Leader rushing to academic advising (so they do not use ADA routes, is not answering questions, and walk too fast and orientees cant keep up), what do you do?
1. During a break, check in with them and give suggestions on ways to improve.
2. As the Orientation Leader that was in a rush, be receptive to the constructive comments by fellow OL.
3. If OL is not responsive let a Supervisor know.
A parent is still following their student around after groups have been made and seems unwilling to let go. How should you respond?
Kindly redirect the parent to the supporter session or remind them why they are grouped this way.
If parent is not responsive to this, contact a supervisor.

5. Usher - setting students and supporters nicely into the ballroom (using all seating inside the ballroom, then using overflow)
