100

Name the four main layers of the Earth.

Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core

100

The Grand Canyon is the result of which process?

Constant water erosion by the Colorado River.

100

Natural features on the Earth's surface are called

landforms

100

What are the three types of rocks?

Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic.

100

The Earth is comprised of what?

Continents and bodies of water

200

Which layer is composed of mostly liquid iron and nickel?

The Outer Core

200

What are the four main causes of erosion?

The four main causes of erosion are water, ice, wind, or gravity.

200

Greenland are a type of what landform?

Islands

200

What is sediment and how is it created?

Sediment is crushed rocks, rubble, or organic material.  It is created by weathering and erosion, and deposited by deposition.

200

When new land is formed, shaped, or change the results are

Landforms

300

Which layer is a rocky layer made up of both solid and liquid?

The Mantle

300

Deposition is the dropping of sediment by what four factors?

These factors are wind, water, ice, or gravity.

300

What landform is created by by volcanic activity, or when rock layers are pushed together.

A mountain
300

How are metamorphic rocks created? Name three metamorphic rocks.

Metamorphic rocks are formed when existing rock is subjected to extreme heat and pressure.  Three metamorphic rocks that we talked about were marble, quartzite, and slate.

300

Name three natural disasters.

Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, blizzards, floods, tsunami, tornadoes, hurricanes, famine, windstorms, tidal waves, droughts, hailstorms, avalanches, etc.

400

This layer is made up of rocks and soil, and forms the land.

The Crust

400

Explain how water could cause weathering.

Rainwater could enter cracks in a rock.  When it gets cold, the water may freeze and expand in the crack.  The ice will eventually split the rock.
400

In the video we watched on landforms, they talked about 15 different landforms.  Name 5 of these landforms.

mountains, hills, island, estuary, river, lake, valley, peninsula, isthmus, bay, coral reef, lagoon, pond, plain, and plateau

400

How are sedimentary rocks created? Name three sedimentary rocks.

Sedimentary rocks are formed sediment is compacted or cemented together.  Three sedimentary rocks that we talked about were limestone, shale, and sandstone.

400

Name two things that are caused by tectonic plate movement.

Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis

500

Is the inner core solid or liquid, and what is it made of?

It is solid and made up of mostly iron and nickel.

500

Explain how weathering, erosion, and deposition work together to change our landscape.

Rocks get broken down by weathering, moved through erosion, and deposited, or dropped, somewhere else through deposition.

500

What is the difference between an isthmus, a peninsula, and an island?

An isthmus is a narrow strip of land with water on both sides that connects two larger pieces of land.  A peninsula is a piece of land that is surrounded by water on three sides. An island is an area of land surrounded entirely by water.
500

How are igneous rocks created?  Name three igneous rocks.

They are created when magma (under the Earth's surface-intrusive), or lava (above the Earth's surface-extrusive) cools or solidifies.   Some igneous rocks we learned about were tuff, pumice, obsidian, and granite.

500

What are some factors that causes changes on the Earth's surface?

Natural disasters, weathering, erosion, and deposition, plate movement, etc.
