It actually does matter to the character, even though they are pretending it doesn't.

Tell them you’ll talk later, redirect yourself to your work, or appropriately ask the teacher for help if needed.

CHAMPS makes the expected conversation level and other expectations clear before/during the activity.

A character is offered an easy way out of a difficult situation but refuses and decides to face the consequences. What does this reveal about the character?
The character may be responsible, honest, brave, or willing to accept the consequences of their actions.
A character lies to avoid getting in trouble, but the lie creates an even bigger problem. Give a possible theme for the story without using only one word.
Dishonesty can create bigger problems; telling the truth is often better than covering up mistakes.

The character became more confident/courageous and learned that taking a risk can be worthwhile even when success isn't guaranteed.
An author describes one character as “determined” but another as “stubborn.” Both refuse to give up. Why might the author choose different words?
The words have different connotations: determined is generally positive, while stubborn is generally negative.
