Billie Jo’s mom was making coffee but her dad put a bucket of kerosene next to the coffee maker and her mom mistakes that for water. Ma put the “water” in the coffee maker and set everything on fire. With her being pregnant, she and her unborn baby did not survive the fire. The fire also made Billie Jo’s hands where it hurt to play piano.

After she went west, Billie Jo met someone who made her realize she needed to come back home. She used a phone to call her dad, and once she got back home, she was greeted by her dad. He talked to her about her mom, her brother who was never born, and Louise (her dad’s girlfriend/college teacher). They finally got to bond and be able to get closer.
