This is indicated to maintain a patient airway and to remove saliva, pulmonary secretions, blood, vomitus, or foreign material from pharynx
What is suctioning
Falling pulse Ox reading, cyanosis, tachycardia and tachypnea with copious frothy sputum present.
What are signs that the patient requires suctioning?
This should be done prior to suctioning to prevent a suction-induced complication
What is hyper-oxygenate patient. Suctioning removes air from the patient's airway and can cause hypoxemia.
In the hospital setting airway suctioning is done as this type of procedure
What is sterile. In the home setting suctioning the airway is a non sterile procedure
