What does a personal brand mean?

Your personal brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room.

100

What is the difference between being angry and being resentful?

Anger is something that is instant and is usually resolved then and there. However, when we allow that anger to grow inside of us for a long time, and never communicate it with the person, it starts turning into resentment.

100

What does a personal boundary mean?

Boundaries are the limits that humans need: mentally, emotionally, and physically to feel safe, valued, and respected.

Name the two types of motivation and give an example for each.

Extrinsic motivation is the desire to engage in an activity due to external factors such as money, social status, fear of punishment, peer pressure, etc.

Intrinsic motivation is the desire to engage in an activity due to the fact that the activity itself is enjoyable.

'If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears the thump, does it really make a noise?' What does this mean in regards to integrity?

If you do the right thing only when people are around, then you are faking it. But if you do the right thing regardless of where you are then that is integrity.

Why do people buy something?

1. It solves a problem

2. It fulfills a desire

200

One way to manage your ego is to make sure you choose to respond not react. What does that mean?

If someone triggers you rather than reacting to a situation right away, you should pause and think about it and try to react mindfully.

Name at least 5 areas of our lives where we need to set a personal boundary and give an example for each.

Physical - not sitting on bed with outside clothes.

Emotional & Mental - not allowing someone to dismiss your opinions for no reason.

Material - Setting limits on the amount of money spent on gifts for people.

Time - Controlling your screen time

Relationships - Calling out a friend who is constantly belittling you

School/Work - Not taking on the entire group’s work because others are not doing it.

Health - Maintaining a sleep schedule

Why is it important to celebrate your achievements with effective rewards? What impact can an effective vs ineffective reward have on your motivation?

Once you work hard and take 10 steps forward towards achieving something and end up breaking that hard work, it can be hard to re-motivate yourself. Instead, choose rewards that are aligned with your goal and will help you maintain your progress so that you continue staying  motivated.

200

What causes you to lie or lack integrity?

  1. Fear of consequences

  2. Peer pressure

  3. Self-interest

  4. Lack of accountability

  5. Pressure to succeed

One sales technique is to bundle something with something else. How is that beneficial?

The technique used to sell to someone who doesn’t want to buy something you are selling.

300

There are 4 reasons that stop us from being self-aware. Explain how it stops us.

1. Technology

2. Lack of Guidance

3. Fear of Judgement

4. Increasing # of Distractions

1. Technology = It promotes distraction, comparison, disconnection, and inauthenticity.

2. Lack of Guidance = We cannot clearly tell right from wrong.

3. Fear of Judgement = Creates self-doubt, and prevents us from seeking feedback from others.

4. Increasing # of Distractions = We don’t have time to spend with ourselves.

300

What causes us to let go of our personal boundaries so easily and why?

Fear of conflict
Desire for approval
Guilt or obligation
Lack of awareness

One way to stay motivated is by making sure you do not pre-dopamine. What does that mean?

Do not spike your dopamine prior to engaging in effort, learn to spike it during or maybe after the effort. If you do it prior to the task, you will not find that task enjoyable and will get distracted easily.

300

A lot of influencers state that they have a negative perception of themselves even if people see them as positive influencers. Do you think honesty and integrity play a role here and if yes, how?

You have an external reputation of what others think of you but you do not think of yourselves like that. When you look at these influencers, you have this perception of who they are but in reality they are completely different. That dishonesty with who they are affects their self-perception.

400

Why is it important for you to build a personal brand?

1. It helps you stand out from the crowd

2. It improves your reputation and opens doors to new opportunities.

400

What are the 3 reasons why we run away from receiving feedback?

1. We feel like we are in danger or feel guilty.

2. We feel we are better than the person so we should not listen to their advice.

3. We find external reasons to blame rather than ourselves.

400

One way to set boundaries effectively is to 'expect resistance but not let it deter you'. What does this mean?

One of the reasons we let go of our boundaries is out of fear of conflict. However, people are going to respond poorly to you standing up for yourself, especially if they were taking advantage of your lack of boundaries. So try to stay consistent with your boundaries even if it leads to uncomfortable situations.

Self-discipline is a muscle. What does that mean and what are some ways you can exercise it?

Self-discipline is like a mental muscle. It is something you can strengthen and practice overtime. It is nurture not nature.

Ways to exercise it:

Taking cold showers

Make your bed immediately after you wake up

Waiting 5 minutes before eating your food

Meditating, journaling, exercising daily

Read 10 minutes a day

Follow a certain sleep schedule

400

If honesty is a mental muscle, what impact do white lies have on it?

These lies might seem harmless because they're about things that aren't very important. But over time, they can build up and turn into a habit. The more you keep doing it the more your muscle for lying gets stronger.

500

One way to discover your passion is to try and 'create dopamine, not consume dopamine.' What does this mean?

Consumption dopamine is when we receive dopamine from consuming things. EX: watching Netflix. Creation dopamine is when we receive dopamine from creating things such as drawing or dancing.

Finding your source of dopamine from creating or trying out new things is much better for you as that is where you discover new passions.

500

What is the sponge mentality vs the strainer mentality when it comes to accepting feedback? Which one should you keep?

Sponge Mentality = You absorb everything that happens to you and hold on to those feelings for a while.

Strainer Mentality = Just like a strainer, you only hold on to things that matter to you and let go of anything that does not help you in the future.

Myra's parents have constantly been breaking her personal boundaries. Due to this she has started to face some consequences. What consequences is she experiencing by allowing her parents to break her boundaries?

Built up resentment and anger for her parents.

Increased stress and anxiety  whenever she is around them.

Taking on too much physical and mental load on herself.

Difficulty in forming a healthy relationship with her parents.

500

What is the marshmallow test and how does it teach the importance of self-discipline?

The marshmallow test is like a game where kids are offered a marshmallow. They can eat it right away or wait a bit. If they wait, they get an extra marshmallow. This test shows that waiting (self-discipline) can lead to better rewards. It teaches that controlling impulses now can lead to bigger benefits later in life.

One way to be more honest and have integrity is by making sure you avoid creating a positive feedback loop of lies. What does this mean?

If you lie because you fear a consequence, that consequence is not going to go away and you just keep lying. For example, if you tell your parents that you aced your math test when you did not because you feared the consequence, that consequence is not going to go away.

So when you are lying think about the consequences and if it is making it go away. If it is not then just avoid lying.
