Zoos get a lot of backlash on how they are not taking proper care of their animals and how they are not kind. While this is the case, sometimes, many zoos are doing their best with the resources they have at their disposal. Animal behavior is hard to see. When an animal is injured, it will hide any signs and symptoms. This is so they look strong and healthy, so predators will be hesitant to attack them. If they showed their weakness or injury, they know that a predator will surely pick them to attack. It was too late for a pregnant giraffe who most likely hid her symptoms. The zoo tried to save both the mother and the baby, but the baby was too small to save. In these instances, they are taken to a medical examiner to see what happened to them. While zoos seem like a terrible place for animals, which I do not disagree with, I do think that some zoos do try and care for their animals.

How does the author develop the central idea?

A.by stating his opinion

B. by describing the treatment

C. by listing the issues

It was quite by accident I discovered this incredible invasion of Earth by lifeforms from another planet. As yet, I haven’t done anything about it; I can’t think of anything to do. I wrote to the Government, and they sent back a pamphlet on the repair and maintenance of frame houses. Anyhow, the whole thing is known; I’m not the first to discover it. Maybe it’s even under control. I was sitting in my easy-chair, idly turning the pages of a paperbacked book someone had left on the bus, when I came across the reference that first put me on the trail. For a moment I didn’t respond. It took some time for the full idea to sink in. After I’d comprehended, it seemed odd I hadn’t noticed it right away. The reference was clearly to a nonhuman species of incredible properties, not from Earth.

How do the actions of the narrator reveal aspects of his personality?

A. by showing he will not sit by and do nothing

B. by explaining why he believes there are aliens

C. by showing his intelligence at figuring out the mystery

D. by explaining how the problem will be solved

A. by showing he will not sit by and do nothing

Like dolphins, sharks are amazing animals. Dolphins use echolocation, which is like radar. They make clicking sounds in the water that bounce off nearby objects in order to determine how far away objects are. Sharks, too, are quite fascinating. They have existed since before the dinosaurs and have over 3,000 teeth in five rows.

Oh, sir, do you not think that you could help me, too, and at least throw a little light through the dense darkness which surrounds me?
