A group of words that belong to the same category or theme, reinforcing a particular idea

What is aspect-to-aspect?
Common features of this text type include a focused thesis, a structured format, a formal tone, and argumentation or explanation
What is an essay?
You should read this first before any other part of the exam, including the choices of texts
What is the guiding question?
The use of urgent, essential, or mandatory verbs to provoke action or simply to give instructions (for example: "Act now before it's too late!"
What are imperatives?
The way elements are arranged to create harmony; can be symmetrical (equal) or asymmetrical (uneven but visually interesting)
What is balance?
Visual cues, such as sweat drops or dizzying swirls, that indicate how a character is feeling
What is emanata?
Common features of this text type include a Q&A format, direct speech, character through language, and potentially an informal tone

Percentage of weight the Paper 1 holds for both SL and HL

A type of repetition where the same word or phrase is repeated at the beginning of successive clauses
What is anaphora?
Invisible or visible lines that guide the viewer’s eyes in a specific direction
What are vector lines or leading lines?
This type of panel transition presents a random jump between unrelated scenes, often for the sake of humor or abstract storytelling
What is non-sequitur?
Common features of this text type include the 5 Ws, an inverted pyramid structure, obectivity, and quotes
What is a news article?
This is what is meant by the "what" and the "how" of the guiding question
