What is a 1:1 Aide?
A staff member who offers support for one student throughout the school day. A 1:1 aide supports students who have unique academic, behavioral, social-emotional or medical needs and requires a high level of support.

You have been informed of your responsibility to implement the recommendations of the student's IEP, including the responsibility to provide accommodations, program mods, and/or supports for the student in accordance with the IEP.

Facilitating and prompting the students' independence in accomplishing tasks by supporting the student, not by doing tasks for the student.
What is FERPA? What happens is we fail to comply with this?
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) a federal law pertaining to the confidentiality of student records. Significant penalties can occur from failure to comply.
What is PT?
Physical Therapy (PT): Physical therapists may provide services for students who have difficulty with their physical strength or endurance.

What are some duties that a paraprofessional may be responsible for? Name at least 3.
Reinforce IEP's or 504's, observe and collect data, assist in prepping materials for instruction, attend team meetings, training sessions and/or workshops, supervisions that include: arrival and dismissal duties, hall and classroom supervision throughout the day, providing adult support in student clubs/activities.
When should physical intervention be used, and who should use this intervention?
Physical intervention should be used ONLY when individuals are attempting to harm themselves or others and all de-escalation strategies have been attempted and unsuccessful.
Physical interventions should be used only by staff trained in CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention).
What are the expectations of a paraprofessional?
Regular attendance, timeliness, appropriate dress, cell phones put away when with students, maintain confidentiality, be a role model.
What does BIP stand for?
Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP): A written plan used to address behaviors that includes positive behavioral interventions and support.
