True or false- children learn more quickly from punishment than they do from consequences.

False- While it's true that punishment might get a quicker response in a specific instance, it's the consistent implementation of consequences that produces long-term behavior change in children. With punishment the child is more likely to focus on you, your behavior, or your anger rather than on themselves and the result of the choice they made. Consequences make the child think about the cause-and-effect relationship between their behavior and the consequences followed. Consequences are directly connected with the behavior whereas punishment is often unrelated or disproportionate to the behavior.

What is by mirroring parents' response/teaching it? Infants and toddlers learn the most by how their parents treat them when they are cranky, frightened, or upset. Explain why something is okay/not okay rather than just telling the child not to do/say something. Ask hypotheticals. By the time a kid is 8 they can grapple with more complex moral decisions which he might realize someone's feelings may be different than his own.
