PC Representative Roles & Responsibilities
The policy council members will demonstrate how they support active involvement of parents in program operations and how they ensure the agency is responsive to community and parent needs. 642(c)(2)(D)(i)
-What is PC members act as liaisons between the Council and Parent Committees (Family Meetings) and encourage other parents to volunteer, participate in fundraisers, plan activities, and join staff interviews.

HS & ELP will continue to take a leadership role with Community Action to increase compensation.

This tells us number of eligible infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and expectant mothers including their geographic location, race, ethnicity, and the languages they speak
What is the Community Needs Assessment?
It also tells us resources that are available in the community to address the needs of eligible children and their families as well as the strengths of the community.

The Policy Council, the Board, and other key stakeholders receive this information at the monthly PC meetings.

Family Services staff will partner with families to develop meaningful family goals that are connected to the PFCE framework and reflect the home culture, language, and traditions of the families that are served by HS & ELP.

What is helping the program to make decisions about what program services we should offer?
An example of this was our choice to offer transportation in Orange during the 2020-21 school year when transportation was very limited, because data and families’ experiences told us that community needed it most. Can you think of other examples?

HSELP Service area is approximately 1700 square miles, primarily rural with increasing language diversity the further south you go towards Westfield, Agawam, and West Springfield.

HSELP provides health screenings, dental referrals, developmental and special education support, leadership and volunteer opportunities, mental health consultation, nutrition, family advocacy, parenting curriculums, trainings, information and referrals, and transportation as available.

The Policy Council Chair sit on the Board and a designated member from the Board sit on the Policy Council as a liaison.
