Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth

100

What is the definition of "prevention"?

Taking steps to stop something from happening.

100

What is the difference between an acute and chronic injury?

Acute = sudden (spraining your ankle playing basketball)
Chronic = long-term/persistent (tendonitis, carpal tunnel)

200

Is risk good, bad, or neutral? Why?

Neutral. Risk is a part of life. Some risks can be good (trying out for a team) and some can be bad (drinking and driving). It is important to know how to identify the difference and what you can do about it.

Why is prevention important for youth specifically?

Young people aged 12 to 19 have the highest likelihood of injury. Adolescents have experienced an increase in injuries over the past decade, especially among girls. Although males, in general, are more likely than females to be injured, young males (aged 12 to 19) are most at risk.

300

True or False: All traumatic injuries always heal completely.

False. Some traumatic injuries can cause permanent disability.

300

3. Tertiary (going to physiotherapy to regain strength after an injury)

400

List two common causes of traumatic injuries in youth.

Motor vehicle collisions, falls, sports-related injuries, acts of violence. *Special mention = e-bike and e-scooter related injuries among youth are on the rise in our region and across the province.
