Participant has trouble buckling up their PFD. They can complete the sequence but often does not have their PFD fastened properly.
What is a fail?
Appropriate PFD correctly donned and fastened on land. Important to emphasize this part of the Swim to Survive skill.
Orca PS 3
The participant puts their face in the water but uses their foot to pick up the ring from the bottom of the pool. Their face stays at the surface, they lift the ring to their hand with their foot.
What is a fail?
Skill must be performed by recovering object with hands and returned to surface in a way that the upper body transfers to the bottom of the pool.
The child is held by the parent in the front layout position facing their child, the child is very wiggly and constantly moves
What is a pass?
Swimmer 1
Participant jumps in independently and lands on their bottom with each entry.
What is a FAIL?
Feet need to enter water first.
Swimmer 6
Participant is in a seated upright position, they have proper semi-circular leg drive and recovery, their knees are apart, and they complete the distance.
What is a pass?
If they can on their back and complete requirements.
Crab PS 2
The participant fully submerges while wearing goggles but will not put more than their chin and nose in when not wearing goggles.
What is a fail?
Skill must be performed without goggles
Swimmer 3
Participants right leg is inverted (like a scissor) during the 10m.
What is a fail?
– Kicks need to be symmetrical, feet flexed with feet wider than knees.
ADLT/TEEN 1
Participant struggles to roll from front to back but easily rolls from back to front.
What is a fail?
– Must be able to roll from both back to front and front to back.
Sea Lion PS 4
Participants shoulder falls to the back after 3m, top arm is extended straight beyond head and other arm is by their side
What is a pass?
– Skill is only performed to 3m in a side position
Swimmer 4
Participant is very tired due to sports day at school. They complete the distance but are very slow paced.
What is a pass?
- It is as fast as possible for this day.
Fitness
Participant rests for 2-3 secs at each wall for 100m distance
What is a fail?
Must be continuous without stopping.
Narwhal PS 5
While participant is kicking on their back their heels are sporadically popping out of the water at the surface.
What is a Pass?
– As long as the kick is propulsive, alternate leg drive near surface and a slight bent knee.
Swimmer 5
Participant is on back with hips near surface, their head rolls with their shoulders as they extend their arm to enter the water, their arms enter in line with their shoulder, pinky in first and the body rolls with a bent arm pull.
What is a fail?
Head needs to be held steady while body rolls on imaginary line.
Swimmer 6
Participant is in a seated upright position, they have proper semi-circular leg drive and recovery, their knees are apart, and they complete the distance.
What is a fail?
If they can only complete requirements in the seated position. Focus is eggbeater on back.
