What is the next number? 2, 4, 6, 8, __

10 (growing by 2 each time)

100

Fill in the missing value in the table: (x:1,2,3; y:2,4,__)

6 (y = 2x)

100

If a pattern shows 3 circles, then 6, then 9, what is the rule?

Term x 3 (y=3x) or add 3 each time

100

Write the equation for: x: 1,2,3; y: 5,7,9

y = 2x + 3

100

What is the constant in y = 2x + 3?

+3

200

Find the rule for the pattern: 5, 10, 15, 20...

Multiply the term by 5 (y=5x)

200

What kind of graph represents a pattern that grows by 5 each time? (What does it look like)

A straight line created by plotted points that are going up by the same amount each time (/)

200

Imagine these shape patterns:

3 squares, 5 squares, 7 squares, 9 squares

y=2x+1

200

Translate the number pattern 4, 8, 12, 16 into a visual model and description

Show your drawing AND:

"Add 4 each time" or "groups of 4 blocks added"

200

Write the equation for a growing pattern that increases by 4 starting at 7

y=4x+7

300

Is the pattern 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 growing or shrinking?

Growing (by 3 each time)

300

Match this table to an equation:

1 - 3

2 - 7

3 - 11

4 - 15

The equation is y=4x-1

300

Draw the next term if the pattern is adding 2 triangles each time from 2, 4, 6...

8 triangles

300

Given y = 3x + 1, fill in a table values for the first 5 terms

4, 7, 10, 13, 16

300

If y = 3x + 5, what is y when x = 4?

y = 3(4) + 5
   = 12 + 5
   = 17

400

What is the pattern rule? 100, 90, 80, 70, __

Subtract 10 each time
(y=110-10x)

400

Describe the pattern shown on a graph with points (1, 2), (2, 5), (3, 8)

Pattern is y = 3x -1 (linear growth)

400

How can you represent a pattern of y=4x using tiles/squares.

Show the first 3 terms.

Start with 4 blocks and add 4 blocks each time.

4 blocks, 8 blocks, 12 blocks

400

Write the equation for the pattern shown in this graph

Points: (1,6), (2,11), (3,16)

y=5x+1

400

Explain what each part of y = 6x - 2 means

Multiplier 6 means the pattern grows by 6 per term, minus 2 adjusts starting value

500

Write the 8th number in the pattern: 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21...

Bonus: Is this linear or non-linear?

35 (each time the pattern adds 1 more)

bonus: Non-Linear (exponential)

500

Complete the table for y = 5x + 2 when

x = 0, 1, 3, 5

x=0 y=2

x=1 y=7

x=3 y=17

x=5 y=27

500
Show and describe how you would draw y=3x+2

Which parts of the equation control which parts of the visual model?

I would draw a row of 3 squares with a circle in the middle on the top and on the bottom.

For each term, I would add another row of squares because the term number is multiplied by the multiplier (in this case, it grows by 3 each time, so it's x3), and the constant is my 2 circles because a constant stays the same each time.

500

Convert the pattern from table to graph and equation:

1 --> 3
2 --> 6
3 --> 9
4 --> 12

 pattern from table to graph and equation: Table x:1-4 y: 3,6,9,12

Equation: y=3x, Graph: straight increasing line where each plotted point is 3 more.

500

Create an equation for a pattern starting with 2 and increasing by 5 each time and graph the first 3 terms.

y = 5x + 2

Show graph (line beginning at 2 on y axis - dots at 7, 12, 17
