Responding To The Patient
If you don’t know the answer to a patient’s question, the best way to respond is.
What is Let me call your nurse right now to find out that answer?
Your patient asks you a question you do not know the answer to. You call the nurse to find out the answer in the moment, but the nurse does not answer. What is the correct thing to do with that patient's question?
What is: write the patient's question on the whiteboard (in hopes of this being escalated in POCV) as well as letting the patient know you will let his/her nurse know when you see them next.
A patient asks you about a side effect of a medication. You should kindly refer the patient to this person.
