It depends on the rock. It could dissolve in to sand (Tuff), make just a little sand (Basalt), or make bubbles (Scoria).

Gravel is a size of rock that is smaller than a pebble but larger than sand.
How can rocks be separated by size?
We can use a screen to separate rocks by their size
