The goal of the Cover Letter
A description of how the Portfolio supports your development and learning as a writer. Where you make your claims and the Portfolio provides evidence. How you have achieved the outcomes, what you have accomplished this semester, and to reflect on your strengths and areas of revision
Portfolio Requirements
FOR FULL POINTS: The writer includes 1) a Table of Contents, 2) the Revision Cover Letter, 3) the Literature Review: Investigating the Conversation (including Works Cited) and 4) either the Discourse Analysis OR the Summary and Analysis (including Works Cited when required by the assignment guidelines).
Information Literacy
FOR FULL POINTS: The Revision Portfolio is highly proficient at meeting the Information Literacy Outcome: Identify relevant information and questions in relation to audience and purpose; Understand the strengths and limitations of a variety of primary and secondary sources; Examine the value of multiple perspectives and personal authority while accounting for individual bias in reading and composing texts; Begin to synthesize conversations and texts to engage in critical inquiry; Develop academic integrity by accurately summarizing, paraphrasing, quoting, and citing a variety of texts and perspectives.
Inward-Looking

Required Word Count for Cover Letter
500-700 Words

Revision Cover Letter
FOR FULL POINTS: The writer includes 1) a brief introduction describing them as a writer, 2) an introduction to each of the two revised essays in the Revision Portfolio, 3) a description of how they met each of the four English 1010 Outcomes, and 4) a conclusion addressing how they will continue working on their writing in future contexts. The cover letter is approximately 500-700 words.
FOR FULL POINTS: The Revision Portfolio is highly proficient at meeting the Composing Processes Outcome: Organize ideas, claims, and support according to audience and purpose; Collaborate with other writers on drafts and revision; Apply collaborator feedback to revise for a purpose; Revise to learn more about a topic or problem; Identify opportunities for continued revision and inquiry.
Revision
Compare/contrast your beginning essay to your revised essay. What changes can you see? Are they listed in your cover letter? How did those changes come about? How do you feel about those changes? What does that tell you about yourself and how you learn?

Outward Looking
Did you do your portfolio the way other people did theirs? What is the one thing you/your classmates particularly notice when you/they look at your work? What might people learn about who you are by looking at this piece?

At the end of the Cover Letter, bolded OR as its own heading after the Cover Letter

Address at least one concept under each of the four outcomes in your letter and talk about how the revision/your growth as a writer is reflective of that outcome
Rhetorical Awareness
FOR FULL POINTS: The Revision Portfolio is highly proficient at meeting the Rhetorical Awareness Outcome: Focus on a purpose appropriate to the writer’s rhetorical situation; Identify and compose for a variety of audiences and contexts; Analyze and respond appropriately to different rhetorical situations, including as outlined in assignment prompts; Identify and analyze rhetorical appeals, including ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos; Understand and rhetorically negotiate the conventions that govern genres, formats, grammar, mechanics, and the use and citation of sources.
