How many levels are there?

hint: include the number 0 in your tally

5 levels

100

What is an "offense"?

An offense means you have broken a rule. An offense on the rubric moves up depending on how many times you have broken that same rule.

100

Who is your restorative practice coordinator here at school?

Ms. Livie

100

Molly told another student they smell. What level would this be?

level 1- low level rude remarks
100

What does "intimidation" mean?

:frightens or threatens another person, making them lose confidence, feel fear, or feel inadequate. This can be due to their appearance, behavior, personality, or a combination of these factors, creating a feeling of unease or superiority in the other person.

200

Molly has told a student that they smell 4 times now. What level would this be?

possibly level 1 BUT if Molly is telling other students this as well OR if Molly does it for a 5th time, it would move to level 2- spreading low-level rumors

200

What are level 0 behaviors?

*list at least 5*

whispering about others, rude facial expressions, mimicking, low-level mean words, sarcastic remarks, eye rolling, refusal to comply, refusal to work with partner/group, laughing at someone, intimidating starting, low-level gossip, etc.

300

PURPOSEFUL behavior causing MODERATE to SEVERE injury or damage, including cyber-bullying is what level?

level 4

300

Why do YOU think level 0, level 1 and level 4 don't use 5 offenses?

Anything is acceptable because it's an opinion.

The reason for level 0 and level 1 having no 5th offense is because, if someone has broken that rule 5 times, it would move to a level 2. It would now be considered MEAN behavior, NOT horseplay etc.

The reason for level 4 having no 5th offense is because due to the severity, the 5th offense would involve getting the board of education or other people at the admin building involved.

300

Who's job is it to "repair the harm"?

WHOEVER caused the harm. It's your job to figure out how to make things right.

People who can help you with that: your teacher, Ms. Livie, Ms. Trista, Mrs. Alicia, Ms. Emma, Mr. Pilgrim, Ms. Lavender, or any other adult in the building.

WE ARE ALL IN THIS COMMUNITY TOGETHER!

How could Molly repair the harm or go about telling someone they smell politely/differently?

Molly could apologize (ONLY IF SHE MEANS IT). How would MOLLY feel if someone said that she smelled? Probably embarrassed. Molly could ask the student if they needed anything like deodorant or something that would be helpful instead of hurtful. Molly could talk to her teacher about it who could help the student... because lets be real, we ALL stink sometimes. It's hot out here.

- etc.

400

What happens if the harm does not get "repaired"?

Think about if Johnny hits Sally. But Johnny does NOT want to say sorry or make things right. Then what?

You would get a more severe consequence. The next time someone harms you, they might not want to make it right because you weren't willing to make it right when you messed up.

It's okay to mess up and make mistakes. We just have to own it and learn from it.

400

Leonard threatens to "smack" a student if they don't play the game with Leonard. What level would this be?

level 4- threats of physical or emotional violence

If it involves an adult, the consequences are far more severe than the rubric.

If Earl was throwing food in the cafeteria, what are some ways he could "repair the harm"?

Give at LEAST 2 examples.

Earl could apologize to the students who he threw food at. Earl could stay after to help sweep/wipe down the cafeteria for a certain amount of time. Earl could clean other parts of the school to help out custodians who are in charge of cleaning up. Early could write an apology to the lunch staff that worked hard to prepare the food that he wasted. ETC.

500

Harold has stolen a fidget from a student. Harold gets a level 3, 1st offense. Harold does not want to admit he stole it because he doesn't want to get in more trouble. What would happen if Harold was honest about taking it?

He would have a less severe consequence. HONESTY always comes first. Stealing is NOT okay, Harold will still have a consequence but he repaired the harm by being honest and if he returns the fidget, he may have 1 supervised lunch/recess detention instead of 2.
