You can find me on the anterior 2/3 of hard palate and attached gingiva.
What is masticatory mucosa?
"I am the dense tissue that is firmly bound to the underlying bone and extend from the base of the sulcus to lining mucosa.
What is attached gingiva?
I am the most numerous and makes up the main attachment of the tooth.
What is the Oblique group?
I am a function of the periodontal liagment that forms bone and cementum.
What is formative?
I'm a thick ridge of bone that contains the tooth sockets and resembles a hard sponge. What am I?
What is the alveolar process?
This thin, freely movable tissue tears and injures easily.
What is lining mucosa?
I am where tissue attaches to the tooth and forms the base of the sulcus. What am I?
What is epithelial attachment ?
I extend from the crest of the alveolar process and attaches itself to the cervical part of cementum.
What is the Alveolar crest group?
Think of me as a shock absorber! I cushion your tooth and protect it from normal biting and chewing forces.
What is the protective function?
I'm one of the bones from which the alveolar process extends, and I'm the upper jaw
What is the maxilla?
These irregular ridges or folds of tissue are found on the anterior portion of the hard palate
What is Palatine rugae?
I'm part of the oral mucosa, but not all oral mucosa is me. I am firm, resistant and self cleansing in form.
What is gingiva?
I am a dense connective tissue that allows the tooth to withstand the pressures and forces of mastication. What am I?
What is Periodontal ligament?
I supply tooth with "sense of touch".
What is the sensory function?
We're the bone-building cells responsible for forming new bone. You could call us the construction crew! Who are we?
What are osteoblasts?
I have red leaf like projections located on the posterior sides of the tongue. What am I?
What is Foliate?
I follow a wavy course around the tooth, in a collar like fashion and am not attached to underlying bone.
What is free gingiva?
I'm irregularly arranged around the tip of the tooth root. I help prevent the tooth from tipping and protect nearby blood vessels, lymph vessels, and nerves.
What is the Apical Group?
I'm what helps provide nourishment to periodontal tissues through blood vessels.
What is the nutritive function?
We resorb bone as part of bone remodeling. Who are we?
What are osteoclasts?
I'm found on the dorsum of the tongue and contain specialized structures called papillae.
What is Specialized mucosa?
Arises from epithelial attachment at base and rises to gingival margin.
What is a gingiva sulcus?
You'll only find me in teeth with multiple roots! I extend from the furcation area between the roots to the surrounding alveolar bone."
What is the interradicular group?
"I'm responsible for breaking down bone and cementum during remodeling."
What is the resorptive function?
When a tooth is lost, the bony ridge that once supported it gradually shrinks and changes shape. What is this process called?
What is bone resorption?
