What is a stranger?

Someone you don't know, even if you recognize the person and they act friendly.

100

What should you always wear when you are riding a bike?

A helmet

100

Should you play with matches? Why or why not?

No. Matches can start fires and fires can get very big, very quickly. Even if we think we are being careful, playing with matches could lead to an accident that causes a fire.

100

What is poison?

Poison is something that can make you sick and is harmful to your body.

100

What should you do for safety when you first get in the car?

Put on your seat belt.

200

Does a stranger have to look like a "bad" person?

No. Remember, a stranger is someone you don't know. There can be "safe" and "unsafe" strangers. A police officer is still a stranger if we don't know him/her. Unfortunately, we don't know if a person is good or bad just by looking at him/her.

200

Should you ride your bike near a busy road? Why or why not?

No. Cars may not be able to see you and there could be an accident. Stay away from the busy roads unless an adult is very close to you.

200

What number do you call if you need to reach the fire department?

911

200

Can medicine be a poison?

If the medicine is not meant for you it can become poisonous. Also, too much medicine can become poisonous.

200

Should put money in your mouth? Why or why not?

No. You could choke and money also has germs on it and is very dirty.

300

If someone you don't know says, "I know your mom. She said for me to take you in my car." What should you do?

Say "NO" or "I'm going to check with my mom" and walk away from the car.

300

Should you go outside without asking your parents? Why or why not?

No, because your parents wouldn't know where to find you. If you were to get hurt, they wouldn't know where to look to be able to help you.

300

What should you do if your house is on fire?

You need to get out of the house as quickly as possible. Meet your family outside and use a cell phone or a neighbor's phone to call the fire department.

300

Is it ever okay to take medicine without a grown up helping you?

No. A grown up needs to make sure you are taking the right kind of medicine and the right amount or you could become sick.

300

Should you ever hide from your parents in a store? Why or why not?

No. If you are hiding and they can't find you, they may walk off to go look for you. When you decide to come out of hiding, they may not be there and then you would really be lost.

400

If an adult you don't know says, "Will you help me find my puppy? What should you do?

Say/yell, "No!" and run to find a safe place/adult. Remember, if we don't know this person it could be a trick (maybe they don't even have a puppy!). If an adult needs help, they should ask another adult for help, not a child.

400

Should you get into a swimming pool without a grownup with you?

No. Even if you are a great swimmer, accidents happen. You always need one other person with you to be safe and that person should be an adult.

400

What should you do if your clothes are on fire?

Stop, drop and roll.

400

What should you do if you see medicine on the floor in your bathroom at your home?

Don't touch it but tell an adult it is there so they can clean it up.

400

Why should you walk with an adult in a parking lot?

You are shorter than most cars so a driver may not be able to see you if you are walking through the parked cars.

500

If you get lost and can't find an adult that you know, who is a safe stranger you can find to ask for help?

A police officer, someone who works at the store, park or place you are visiting (usually these people will be in a uniform)

500

What should you do if you see broken glass on the ground while you are playing?

Do not touch the glass. Let an adult know where it is so they can safely remove it.

500

What should you do if there is a lot of smoke in your house?

Crawl close to the ground to find a way out of the house.

500

What else could be poisonous in your house?

Cleaning products, items in your garage (like things used for your car or lawn mower). Batteries, items used to kill bugs, products in your bathroom. Sometimes even plants are poisonous to people if we put it in our mouth.

500

Who do you call if your mom has gotten very sick and she cannot use the phone?

Dial 911. By calling 911 an operator can send either police, fire or an ambulance (or all 3) to help you.
