What are daily activities on the NexSys PCS?

SOP: CTR6002 NexSys PCS

Every day prior to a donor using any NexSys PCS device, the device must have the plasma weigher and AC weigher checked with a certified 1000g weight.

Every NexSys PCS device used for a donation throughout the day must be cleaned prior to leaving. This includes: The DPM and external surface of the device.

100

What is a Hematoma?

SOP: CTR3002F-ac Donor Care Instructions- Hematoma/Infiltration

A hematoma (or infiltration) is a localized collection of blood outside of the blood vessel.

100

What is considered an underdraw?

What is considered an overdraw?

SOP: CTR4002 Donation Monitoring and Collection Exceptions

An actual plasma volume more than 5mLs below the plasma target is considered an underdraw.

An actual plasma volume more than 5mLs higher than the plasma target is considered an overdraw.

What are some of the donor floor rules for donors?

SOP: CTR4000 Donor Floor Overview

No donors may eat or drink anything during their donation. This includes chewing gum or having any object in their mouth. No donor may sleep or wear sunglasses or place any object over their face to cover their eyes.

200

What are you looking for when inspecting the disposable set installation?

SOP: CTR4001WI-aa Donor Floor Machine Set Up

Ensure there are no kinks or occlusions in the tubing.

Ensure the tubing is fully inserted to the bottom of the slot of the valves and air detectors.

Ensure no other tubing is touching the pump rotors.

200

What is the acceptable gram weight for the NexSys PCS AC Weigher and Plasma Weigher?

SOP: CTR6002WI-aa Completing NexSys PCS Equipment Activities

1000+/- 3

200

What size must a hematoma be to be considered a non-reportable reaction?

SOP: CTR3002 Donor Reactions

If the swelling is not greater than 2-inches in any direction, the event is treated as a non-reportable event.

200

When is a donor required to drink the electrolyte solution?

SOP: TM1010 Donor Floor Supplemental Training

Donors with RBC losses should be provided an electrolyte beverage following a red cell loss.

300

When is an equipment incident report needed?

SOP: CTR6001 Equipment Overview

When a pierce of equipment does not perform to the manufacturers standard, a piece of equipment gets damaged or broken, and/or the equipment fails an activity.

300

Approximately how far from the Y connector do you hemostat the double tubing?

SOP: CTR4001WI-ad Donor Disconnect

Approximately 6 inches

300

What are the parts of the heat sealers?

SOP: CTR6006 Heat Sealer

A base and wand.

300

What are the types of non-reportable events?

SOP: CTR3002 Donor Reactions

Vasovagal, Citrate and Venipuncture Event

300

If a donor loses how much amount of blood will they be deferred?

How long is the deferral?

SOP: CTR4002 Donation Monitoring and Collection Exceptions

A donor will be deferred for 56 days for any cell loss that is greater than or equal to 200mLs or if the donor experiences two cell losses less than 200mLs in a 56-day period.

400

What is the donor floor ratio?

SOP: CTR4000 Donor Floor Overview

1:6

400

When a disposable set is used to preset a machine, within how long must it be used?

SOP: CTR4001WI-aa Donor Floor Machine Set Up

When a disposable set is used to preset a machine, the set must be used within 8 hours of the setup.

400

What are the weekly cleaning activities on the NexSys PCS?

SOP: CTR6002 NexSys PCS

On a weekly basis, the following items are to be cleaned on the NexSys PCS Device:

- All air detectors

- The line sensor

- The centrifuge well and chuck

- The fluid sensor

- The bowl optics lens

400

What are some common causes of citrate reactions?

SOP: CTR3002 Donor Reactions

Donor nutrition levels, machine pump speed, set up error which citrate and saline have been mismatched.

400

What are the different color beacon lights and what do they mean?

SOP: TM1010 Donor Floor Supplemental Training

Off: All is well.

White: There's an error that requires your attention or the procedure is in a paused state.

Orange: There's a notification on the screen.

Green: The procedure is completed.

Blue: POST (power on self test) or on the final return cycle.

500

What is a label defect and what is a label error?

SOP: CTR1010 Label Management

Label defect: Visible damage to a donor bleed set that affects the label's readability, scanability, or other critical aspect.

Label error: The discrepancy between the actual and assigned label to a donor, unit or sample.
